Cutting the cost of silage

The correct choice of optimum grass harvesting methods has been widely debated ever since the first harvesting machines were introduced.

Pottingers solution is the self loading wagon.

The forage should not be too finely chopped. If there is a long term structure deficiency in the feed, the health and productivity of the animals can be adversely affected. Using the chop length stipulated by feed experts, the chopping quality of the self loading wagon falls precisely into the desired range for ruminants and satisfies the most demanding of customer requirements.

Results of a study carried out by the Agricultural Research institute of Northern Ireland
* 80% less manpower
5 people are often required for forage harvester production, whereas a self loading wagon needs only a driver.

* 50% saving on diesel
Diesel costs are twice as high for self propelled forage harvesters.

* 85% less energy requirement
712kw total power was required for the forage harvester procedure. Only 118kw total power was required for the self loading wagon.

* No difference in silage quality
Values are within the required range for high quality wilted silage.
